Kim Oneil's New Exhibition - A Quiet Storm, Burham: Storm-Painted Art, 23rd to 27th September 2026

A Quiet Storm, a three-panel painted screen installation by Kim O'Neil, viewed from behind as a visitor stands before it in St Mary's Church, Burham.

A Quiet Storm is Kim’s new installation of work. It opened today (Wednesday 23rd) at St Mary’s Church, Old Church Road, Burham, and runs until Sunday 27th September, 10.30am to 4pm each day. There is a private view on the Thursday evening, 24 September, from 6pm to 9pm.

Kim O’Neil paints outdoors during real storms, laying down initial marks before letting wind and rain reshape the surface, then responding with further marks of her own — a genuine back-and-forth between artist and weather. One piece in the series, worked in Payne’s grey, is titled “The Storm.” O’Neil has described the process as letting the rain and wind carry the paint in unplanned directions, with the storm itself becoming part of how each piece takes shape. The series was made during a period of personal transition in her life, and the organisers behind the show also read the weather-altered surfaces as a quiet reflection of a wider, changing climate. A Quiet Storm — Developed during O'Neil's transition into middle age, the series carries the turbulence and clarity of that life stage, revealing a shift into a more elemental self. As extreme weather intensifies globally, these storm-altered surfaces also register the wider environmental instability shaping our world. Placed at the altar, the works invite reverence for nature itself — a reminder that weather is a living force we move within.
